audio description

Live audio description adds information about visual information that cannot be gathered through sound alone. In theatre, the stage, props and the characters’ appearance and actions are described so that blind patrons can know more about the visual elements on stage. This can only be done before the actual performance or between dialogue lines.
In performances where there is no dialogue, as happens with dance and circus performances, for instance, the audio describer may have more time for description but may have more difficulty describing artistic body movement. In music perfomances, where sound takes center stage, things can be even more difficult, because nothing can be said while the artists perform.
A balanced audio description is one that engages with the live performance in a discreet manner not to detract from the performance itself.
